Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

Dentures are custom-made false teeth that restore your facial contours as well as your chewing and speaking ability. Usually, dentures have acrylic or metal-covered-by-acrylic base and acrylic or porcelain teeth. If you want immediate tooth replacement at a reasonable price, dentures could be the perfect solution.

What kind of dentures are available?

63rd Street Dental offers three different dentures options.

Full dentures

Full dentures are for patients who either have no natural teeth left or need a tooth extraction for all their remaining natural teeth. This type of denture has a single prosthesis for your top arch and another full-arch prosthesis for the bottom of your mouth. Full dentures suction to your gums to stay in place.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are for patients who still have some healthy teeth. The partial dentures clasp into position, using your healthy teeth as support. Partial dentures can allow you to use just one prosthetic per arch, instead of multiple bridges.

Implant-supported dentures

63rd Street Dental offers a unique denture/dental implant hybrid called implant-supported dentures. This type of prosthetic includes a small number of dental implants, typically either four or six, in each arch.

Usually, you’ll have at least two implants to replace molars, and then at least two other implants towards the front of your mouth as well. The implants are part of a complete arch of replacement teeth. Implant-supported dentures can be a happy medium between dentures and dental implants because you get a reasonable price along with excellent stability.

The 63rd Street Dental team can review all the options with you to help you select the one that works best with your lifestyle.

What if my dentures feel loose or unstable?

If your dentures start to feel loose or unstable, 63rd Street Dental can help. It’s not unusual for any restoration to wear down over time, and dentures are no different. Usually, loose or unstable dentures simply need a repair, or a reline so you can continue wearing them. A reline involves adding a new lining to your denture base to vastly improve fit and comfort.

In some cases, structural changes in your mouth may leave your dentures too unstable to wear. 63rd Street Dental can design new custom-fitted dentures that work perfectly for your needs, even if your original dentures came from a different provider.
